Welcome!

Today we welcomed our new pet bunny to Joseph Locke primary school. All the children have not yet been introduced as we are just allowing her a little time to settle in and get used to her new surroundings. She did attend the staff meeting with all the teachers this morning and was more than happy to sit there which indicates that she is very calm and tame 🙂 We do not have a name as of yet as we are going to decide as a school after the half term holidays …this may possibly be as part of a whole school homework activity. She will most certainly be a valued member of our school so watch this space for more posts to see what she gets up and how the children are benefiting from her involvement in school 🙂

Our little furry friend!

The children are all very excited for the new arrival of our very own school pet bunny. With the holidays approaching, it allows the perfect opportunity to ensure that we have time to get everything ready so that our bunny has a comfortable home on arrival. We are just awaiting the delivery of the cage and then we are all set to go and purchase our bunny. We intend to make the purchase from our local ‘pets at home store’ and the staff have volunteered to visit our school to give an educational talk to the children about the importance of pets and how to care for them appropriatly etc. During the weekend and school holidays, the bunny will be visiting its second home at Miss Shirt’s house to ensure that it is properly cared for. Watch this space for the arrival shortly 🙂

Our Exciting New Room… The Heart!

Posted by Mrs Shirt in General News

Welcome to the newest resource provision within our school setting, now known as ‘THE HEART’. This provision was previously known as the ‘nurture room’ but will be used for a completely different purpose after the half term holidays. It is similar in the fact that the purpose is aimed to support children’s social, emotional and behavioural aspects within our school but this will be with a much wider range of children using various strategies, interventions and programmes. This provision is a huge positive in terms of contributing to our school setting and we as staff members are all very excited about this new opportunity. The room will be run by myself ‘Miss Shirt’ with the support of Mrs Parker who most of you will be familiar with.
The programmes and interventions being used involve: take ten, time to talk, Lego therapy, philosophy for children and Jenny Moslems circle time programmes. All of these interventions have been chosen specifically as they aim to promote language, communication, interaction and relationships along with peer support and team work.
Our classrooms are very academically driven but this does not always allow for additional time to support our children’s social and emotional development where extra is required. Our ‘Heart room’ is allowing this opportunity to individually support children where and when needed. Having an additional, positive relationship with an extra adult (myself or Mrs Parker), provides children with that extra support that they can access throughout the week.

We have lots of new intended plans for ‘The Heart Room’ so please do check in on our blog to Find out about our future plans in supporting all the children at Joseph Locke Primary School.
